I created this blog to talk about the books I love and even some that I don’t. As I do read a lot some of my friends have asked me to let them know what I think. So that is what I plan on doing. If you have any suggestions or would like me to read anything particular please let me know. The genres that I will mainly be reading are: Young Adult, Fantasy, SciFi, Romance, Urban Fantasy, Horror, Paranormal, and Paranormal Romance.

Genre: Paranormal Romance; Ophidian, Snakes, Shifters
Publisher: Tease Publishing Book
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Thirty females of the Ophidian race have gone missing, most from the transient nest of Las Vegas, a rogue and unofficial nest run by the Saint, John Merrick. Believed to be dead by every Archon in the states, Merrick leads a quiet and unassuming life, saving those of his race that are lost and need it most. It's a solitary existence, one that he hates every day. He yearns for his mate, the woman he left over a decade before, and the woman who thinks him dead to this day. When Elise Rizdon gets the official invitation to the Archon meeting in Ohio by the leader of a new Midwestern nest, she never expected to see the love of her life at the woman's side, a man she was told was dead and buried. She lost him once upon a time, and she never fully recovered. Focusing on the issues, and not the man that has always made her body burn is not going to be easy. A disturbing event is on the horizon, one that threatens all Ophidian's and their way of life. In order to survive they will have to work together, give up old grudges and take chances on the things that matter most. Love, life and the continuation of their race.

This is the first book in the Ophidian series. The story is about people who can change into snakes, which I absolutely loved. The perspective on this story changes to several different characters with a seamless transition. There are so many great characters to this story that I can’t really have just one favorite. Once I started reading this book I couldn’t put it down. It has all my favorite elements: danger, romance, rescuing and happy endings. I really did enjoy reading this book. It will be out in January 2010.

Until next time curl up with another book and get to know another world.

Genre: Urban Fantasy; Magic, Fae
Publisher: Luna
Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Joanne Walker has three days to learn to use her shamanic powers and save the world from the unleashed Wild Hunt. No worries. No pressure. Never mind the lack of sleep, the perplexing new talent for healing herself from fatal wounds, or the cryptic, talking coyote who appears in her dreams. And if all that's not bad enough, in the three years Joanne's been a cop, she's never seen a dead body—but she's just come across her second in three days. It's been a bitch of a week. And it isn't over yet.

Joanne has shamanic powers which is news to her, but she has to learn how to use them fast. The good part is that she is a cop as well as being good at figuring things out. The story is a bit of a mystery as well, which I found very refreshing. I thought that the interaction between Joanne and Coyote was brilliantly written. I like the book and this is the first book in the series. I will look out for the other to read soon.

Until next time curl up with another book and get to know another world.

Genre: Fantasy; Magic
Publisher: DAW Trade
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Karigan G’ladheon, running away from school, is traveling through a deep forest when a galloping horse pounds up to her, its rider impaled by two black-shafted arrows. With his dying breath, he tells her he is a Green Rider, one of the magical messengers of the King. Before he dies, he makes Karigan swear to deliver the message he’s carrying, and gives her his green coat, with the symbolic brooch of his office. Pursued by unknown assassins, following a path only her horse seems to know, Karigan becomes a legendary Green Rider—for when given to the right person, a Rider’s brooch awakens the magic inside….

This is a story full of magic and fantasy. Karigan is running away from school only to happen upon a dying Green Rider. By taking up his cause she is now being pursued by the very same assassins who killed the original rider. There is a lot that is going on throughout this story. But it is well worth the reading. I was even shocked to learn that this was Kristen Britain’s first novel. It is very well written. I found that I couldn’t put it down once I started reading it. It really sucks you into the world. If you hadn’t guessed I really enjoyed this book.

Until next time curl up with another book and get to know another world.

Genre: Paranormal Romance; Vampires; Vampire Hunters
Sub Genre: Urban Fantasy
Publisher: Signet Eclipse
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: The government knows that Daphne Urban is a vampire, and they have an ultimatum: spy for them, or be killed. The choice is easy. She can speak 13 languages, has a genius IQ, and has escaped detection for nearly five hundred years-making her perfect for Team Darkwing. Her first mission is to get close to Bonaventure, a shady arms dealer with an unexpected gift for seduction. But when Darius, a darkly sexy vampire slayer, begins chasing her, Darius is torn between desire and duty. For his lithe, young prey is also his ultimate temptation.

Daphne is one of those characters who are very confident in herself. She isn’t all that happy that she is forced into joining Team Darkwing. But at the same time she’s very good at what she does. Darius who is the perfect counter to her just can’t quite handle that she is a vampire. I liked the why this story is written. It keeps you on the edge of your seat with the action that takes place. I enjoyed it a lot. This is the first book in the series and I’m looking forward to finding out what happens next.

Genre: Paranormal Romance; Demons, Fae, Pixies, Faeries, Otherworldly
Sub Genre: Urban Fantasy
Publisher: Signet Eclipse
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Maureen Child introduces an everyday woman who discovers she’s a descendant of Otherworldly Faeries and destined to defeat an evil queen… Maggie Donovan isn’t interested in overthrowing a Faery queen. Maggie has had barely enough time to kill the demon that devoured her fiancé, never mind save the Otherworld. Her hands are full babysitting her smart-mouthed twelve-year-old niece while her sister is getting her chakras lined up. But when Maggie comes home to find a scrumptious hunk who insists she has Otherworld problems to solve, she may not have a choice. Especially since she’s suddenly been endowed with superhuman strength and a bad habit of flying awkwardly through the air… An elite Faery warrior, Culhane isn’t exactly boyfriend material, but that hasn’t stopped Maggie’s wild imagination. What Maggie doesn’t realize is that there’s one secret the sexy warrior hasn’t revealed: He’s already bound to the powerful Faery queen he wants Maggie to defeat.

This is a story of a woman who is ¼ Faery, but she has no idea. After an encounter with a demon she starts to turn into a Faery. With her getting power that causes some awkward moments in her everyday life, she isn’t sure what to make of everything that Culhane is telling her. But she has to admit that there is something that is going on. This story is another good take on the Faery legends. Maggie is your reluctant hero who just wants to have everything go back to being normal. Only she has a lot to do before she can do that. And her attraction to Culhane doesn’t help anything. I found the story compelling and enjoyable. I can’t wait to read Begiled, the next book to see where the story is going to go.

Until next time curl up with another book and get to know another world.

Genre: Young Adult
Sub Genre: Paranormal Romance; Magic, Incubus, Witches, Small Towns, The South
Publisher: Little, Brown
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything. Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps, and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

This is a story of small towns, magic and the south. Ethan has been in Gatlin his whole life and he just can’t wait to leave. But when Lena comes he can’t help but be drawn to her. Wanting to first befriend her and then protect her. The story has many characters and taking glimpses of the past looking at both of the main characters ancestors. It is a well written story. The characters not only learn about themselves but their families as well. I really enjoyed this story.

Genre: Paranormal Romance; Werecats
Sub Genre: Urban Fantasy
Publisher: Mira
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: I look like an all-American grad student. But I am a werecat, a shape-shifter, and I live in two worlds. Despite reservations from my family and my Pride, I escaped the pressure to continue my species and carved out a normal life for myself. Until the night a Stray attacked. I'd been warned about Strays -- werecats without a Pride, constantly on the lookout for someone like me: attractive, female, and fertile. I fought him off, but then learned two of my fellow tabbies had disappeared. This brush with danger was all my Pride needed to summon me back . . . for my own protection. Yeah, right. But I'm no meek kitty. I'll take on whatever -- and whoever -- I have to in order to find my friends. Watch out, Strays -- 'cause I got claws, and I'm not afraid to use them . . .

Faythe is another kick-butt kind of girl. All she has ever wanted is her independence and to be able to live her own life. But some strays have other plans for her. This is the first book in the Shifter series. And it starts off with a bang and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I really enjoyed were the story is going. I can’t wait to read the rest of it.

Genre: Fantasy; Magic, Reincarnation
Publisher: Bantam Books
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Even as a young girl, Jill was a favorite of the magical, mysterious Wildfolk, who appeared to her from their invisible realm. Little did she know her extraordinary friends represented but a glimpse of a forgotten past and a fateful future. Four hundred years – and many lifetimes – ago, one selfish young lord caused the death of two innocent lovers. Then and there he vowed never to rest until he’d righted that wrong – and laid the foundation for the lives of Jill and all those whom she would hold dear: her father, the mercenary soldier Cullyn; the exiled berserker Rhodry Maelwaedd; and the ancient and powerful herbman Nevyn, all bound in a struggle against darkness… and a quest to fulfill the destinies determined centuries ago.

This is one of those epic fantasies. There are many players and many years that have passed within this first book. The characters have lived full lifetimes that we get to see a few in this book. I found that even with the change of the character point of view it was a very compelling story. There is a lot that is going on but it is so well written that you can’t put it down till you finish the book. I really liked this book as seeing how everyone keeps having to deal with the same characters since they haven’t finished or fixed the problem that they have to work out with each other. There are many books to this series and I can’t wait to read them all.

Until next time curl up with another book and get to know another world.

Genre: Paranormal Romance; Selkies
Sub Genre: Urban Fantasy
Publisher: Berkley Sensations
Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Her spell cannot be broken… From the water… For year, Margred has gone without the touch of another. Now, her need has driven her beyond her own world. For she is a selkie – a legendary being of the sea, able to shape-shift into seductive human form. Finally, she has found the one she wants… From the land… A burned-out veteran of the big-city streets, Caleb Hunter was only too happy to take the job as police chief on the peaceful Maine island of World’s End. Nothing ever happens in this tiny community surrounded by the sea – until he meets a woman who’s everything he’s ever dreamed of. And more… To each other… Their passion is undeniable. Irresistible. But when a murderer begins targeting women in World’s End, Caleb must face the terrible possibility that the killings are somehow connected to the mysterious Margred – and that the power of their love may change the fate of humankind…

This book is one that is a bit mystery, paranormal, and romance. Margred isn’t looking for anything long term. Her heart is with the sea and she just is in her need and Caleb is perfect for that. While Caleb doesn’t know much about Margred he feels the need to be with her and hopefully keep her with him. The story is one that I found to be a quick read. We get sucked into the drama that is surrounding Caleb and his past while hoping that Margred will stay with him. It was something that I thought is a good story with characters that you do care about.

Genre: Young Adult
Sub Genre: Urban Fantasy; Demons, Special Abilities, High School
Publisher: Candlewick Press
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: On a single night, five children suddenly vanish from their homes in Paris, Glasgow, Rome, and London. Years later, five enigmatic teenagers make an impressive entrance at an exclusive New York holiday party with their strange but beautiful governess. Madame Vileroy. Rumor and intrigue follow the Faust children to the elite Manhattan Marlowe School, where their very presence brings unexplainable misfortune. Using “gifts” given to them by Madame Vileroy, these mysterious teenagers rise to suspicious heights at Marlowe. Though at first their abilities seem almost childlike in their simplicity, they soon learn that their newfound talents for cheating, stealing, hiding, and lying are far more potent than they had ever imagined – and far more addictive. Ignoring the side effects of pursuing their individual obsessions, bargaining with the very devil in their midst as they claw their way to the top, these five ambitious teens draw ever nearer to their goals… until two of them uncover a secret even more shocking than their own most unforgivable sins. Dialing up the ancient dilemma of indulgence versus redemption, this modern-day retelling of the Faustian bargain story, set in twenty-fist-century Manhattan, provides a look into the cutthroat world of high-school competition that is both bitingly funny and scorchingly wicked.

The five children in this story all want something, and they are willing to bargain anything to get it. This is a great take on the Faustian bargain. As it is more than just one character. We get to see all the different characters fall victim to their own inner sins. I found that the story was very well written. Each of these characters is so well developed and you are so wrapped up in their stories that you won’t want to put the book down. I really liked this book.

Until next time curl up with another book and get to know another world.
